Morning Pages - Simple Tool for Transformation
Want to change your life and the way you see it? Try this practice for the next 30 days! Many of my clients have never journaled before, and this is one practice I highly recommend adding to your morning routine.
Morning Pages, created by Julia Cameron, are a powerful tool for sparking creativity and personal growth. The idea is simple: wake up and write three pages about anything on your mind.
Why in the morning? Writing early lets you capture your thoughts before your ego wakes up and your defenses kick in. In the quiet moments of the morning, you can write honestly and purposefully.
"There's a time every morning when we are half awake, half asleep, and not fully conscious. In those moments, we can tap into our unconscious mind and inner workings. But like dew on the grass, these thoughts fade quickly. Listening to these tender morning whispers helps us connect with our deeper selves and guides us on our path to transformation."
Morning Pages are a stream of consciousness meant to be written in a journal first thing in the morning. Keep your journal by your bed and reach for it while you’re still half asleep. Start by jotting down any dreams you remember. At first, you might not recall much, but with practice, you’ll get better. You’ll be telling your brain, “I’m ready to hear my deepest thoughts,” and more will be revealed.
This practice helps you build a deep connection with your inner self.
Next, write down 10 things you’re grateful for from the day before. Our minds often focus on what’s wrong, ignoring the fact that we live in a peaceful country, have friends, food, a place to live, and freedom. Take a moment to appreciate what went well yesterday.
Then, move on to stream-of-consciousness writing. Fill at least one page, maybe two. Write whatever comes to mind—nothing is too small, silly, or unimportant. No one else will read this, so don’t hold back. You’ll be amazed at what comes out. Write at your own pace. This writing helps clear out the thoughts that might otherwise block you from being your best self.
By doing Morning Pages, you release all those repressed thoughts so you can live fully.
Remember, you are not your mind, and you are not your thoughts. You are a spiritual being in a material world, moving toward the life you truly deserve.
“Watch your breath. Watch your mind. It’s like meditation. Be still and let it all pass from your mind onto the paper." – Julia Cameron
